Boudoir Photography: Not Just for Ladies Anymore

If you look at a box of briefs or a calendar of sexy, half-clad cowboys, you are looking at close relatives of the male boudoir photograph. That’s good to know, because as most guys are not highly paid underwear models, to get a similarly stunning, yet private picture of themselves, the smart thing to do is go to a boudoir photography studio. Men are changing the face of boudoir shots!

Sometimes called “beefcake” or “dudoir” this is a specialty area of photography, where men can get the same rewarding, self-expressed experience that women have enjoyed for quite awhile. Here are tips to prepare men for a boudoir photo shoot, and what you should expect at Mistress J’s Boudoir Photography Studio.

First, identify your target audience. Is this a gift for a lover, wife, or partner? What do you want your picture to express? Do you want to capture a moment just for yourself? Need a sexy shot for a modeling portfolio?

Next, identify your best features. Admit you have fabulous biceps or an outrageously firm butt; this is the time to celebrate it! Is it your glorious eyes smoldering over powerful shoulders? Decide what parts of yourself you are willing to share with the camera, and we’ll build from there. Boudoir photography is not only for “beautiful people.” A great boudoir photographer can make men look powerful, sexy and hot, whether they think they are or not.

Are you into the outdoors? Are you an athlete? Do you love leather? We can build a shoot around your hobbies or fetishes. Feel free to bring special props that add to the uniqueness of your shoot. Another thing people don’t think about regarding this specialized photography is that very sexy results can be achieved with varying amounts of clothing or coverings. Boudoir photography is NOT pornography, although many boudoir photographers foray into tasteful (and edgier) nudes. You choose your “dress scale.”

Mistress J provides a relaxed atmosphere where your self-expression flourishes with guidance, not judgment. We recommend at least one phone conversation prior to your shoot to review your objectives and discuss studio set up. Your scheduled in-studio shoot includes plenty of time to ease you into the groove, and allow yourself to become immersed in this very personal experience.

Fun Excuses to Invest in That Boudoir Photo Shoot

Have you always wanted to have boudoir pictures taken but haven’t quite come up with the perfect excuse? Here are a few fun reasons to invest in that boudoir photo shoot:

  • The pictures make great gifts! They are a perfect way to commemorate your upcoming anniversary, celebrate your engagement/wedding or say “happy birthday!” or “happy holidays!” to that special someone.
  • Boudoir photos can make time stand still. Do you want this moment in your life to last a lifetime? Commemorate your new relationship with individual or couples photos that express your love and attraction towards each other.
  • They can help you empower yourself. Whether you’re single or in a relationship, boudoir photos can be a fantastic affirmation of how sexy and beautiful you really are.

What are other reasons you recommend investing in a boudoir photo shoot? I’d love to hear what inspired you!

Creating the Perfectly Sexy Facial Expression

As I’ve said before, a sexy photo is more than what you wear and how you pose. Your facial expression matters, too!

To make your boudoir session as successful as possible, look through magazines and websites to find expressions you like. When you find a few you like, go to a mirror and practice mimicking what you see. Pay attention to how it feels to make the expression, so you aren’t dependent on looking at yourself during your boudoir photo shoot.

Once you get to your session, don’t be afraid to try your practiced expressions, or even try something totally different. That expression that feels a little bit silly might end up looking erotic or suggestive to the camera.

Remember not to worry about how your expression looks to the photographer – I promise I will never laugh! Instead, I’ll offer suggestions to help you take your expression from cute and pretty to sultry and seductive.

Men vs. Women: How Boudoir Shots Differ

Everyone wants to look sexy. As a boudoir photographer, I get to be reminded regularly of just how beautiful and sensual the human body is! I also love the diversity of sexual expression that comes into my studio, which is one of the many reasons I enjoy photographing both men and women.

So how does boudoir photography differ between men and women?

I would say men want to convey confidence and sexual prowess, although this comes across in many different ways depending on the man. Men generally focus on the overall appearance of being desirable as opposed to the smaller like hair and nails.

Women, on the other hand, usually want to look picture perfect, like we see in magazines. They generally want to be glamorous and sexy – the way they wish they could look every day if it weren’t for taking care of everything from errands and housework to kids, pets and work.

As a boudoir photographer, I work with each client to establish their goals of the session and make sure their pictures turn out the way they had in mind. Of course, a few basic tips before the session always help, too! How can I show you off at your sexiest? Contact Jeanine Brown Photography today for a complimentary consultation!

5 Boudoir Photo Tips for Beginners

Do you have a boudoir photo shoot coming up but aren’t quite sure how to pose or what expression to make? Of course, as a photographer I always offer suggestions and tips along the way, but here are a few things to keep in mind:

  1. Before the session, look at other boudoir photos to get ideas of poses that you like, such as the top 5 from Better Boudoir Photography that might give you some inspiration.
  2. Try as many angles as you can. It might take a while to figure out which ones you like the best; the larger the variety the more options you have later. You can even create variety by raising your arms above your head or playing with your hair, which will frame your face and lift your breasts.
  3. Don’t always look at the camera, especially at the beginning of the shoot. Sometimes it takes a few minutes to start to feel comfortable and sexy, so don’t look directly at the lens. Instead look off to the side or even close your eyes.
  4. Make different expressions. Again, this is giving yourself a greater variety of photos after the shoot. Try sexy, sultry and seductive.
  5. Relax and have fun! The whole idea of boudoir photos is to take sexy photos of yourself (whether for you or that someone special), so try not to be self-conscious and have fun with the experience!

Sexy Screen Siren Heats Up Mistress J’s Studio!

Cuffs or crop?

Two weeks ago I had the pleasure of photographing scream queen Debra Lamb in my Nude photo by Mistress J Studiosbeautiful Sunnyvale studio. Debra and I have similar artistic visions, and she chose Mistress J Studios because I specialize in high quality sexy and erotic photography.

.One of my favorite things about working with Debra is she knows her angles, how to move, and can immediately get back into a pose if she has to stop. That is the main difference between working with a professional actress and a non actor. Knowing the angles and poses helps so much.

Debra also isn’t shy at all! She is willing to try anything, bare it all and have a good time.

She is also incredibly flexible and supple.

I hope you just take a moment to enjoy these photographs of a beautiful and talented woman.

If you want sexy nude, fetish, kink or boudoir photography, visit Mistress J Studios. I have a large private and beautiful studio in Sunnyvale. I can take care of all of your photographic needs.

Mistress J Loves Men!

Mistress is mad.

I have been looking at many other kink photographer’s work and while beautiful, the focus is usually women. I enjoy the female form as much as the next Domme, but the male body rocks too. I am on a mission to end this imbalance of representation! My goal for 2011 is to get an exhibit going featuring the gorgeous male body nude and in various kinky ways.

I love the strength of a man’s arms and shoulders and the way the masculine contours

Mistress J loves strong shoulders!

absorb the light and shadows. The male form begs to be photographed in black and white. Look at this photo on the right. Don’t you want to run your hands across his strong, wide shoulders, down his arms, up again and down his back? I do.

I also think the male body lends itself to more mystery then a woman’s. Perhaps

What is under the blanket?

I am just partial. I love the combination of strength and sensuality, and at times even a little vulnerable. Since photography is composed of contradictions, light and dark the male physique is contradictory too. It is both hard and soft. Smooth and rough.

So, as I end my post on the beauty of the male form. Think of ways you would want to see Mistress J photograph various male subjects. Comment on this blog or email me at mistressjstudios@gmail.com. I’d love to hear your thoughts and get a dialogue going.

Pole Dancing as Exercise!

Mistress J had a fun experience at Sedusa Studios in Campbell when I did a pole dancing session with the girls! You wouldn’t think that pole dancing was a good workout but after doing it for awhile, it drains you out! Being able to do this was an empowering. I feel like I could roar!

It is an artistic performance as well. You create a sensual experience as your body twists and turns around the pole. As you grow further into the performance, the energy around you heightens and you feel as if you can fly.

Of course after the session of pole dancing,  I needed a drink. So I got a Lemon drop at Dell Saloon (www.thegranddell.com/) which was completely amazing! Yum!

While enjoying our drinks, my friend brought out her whip from Bliss Connection which got a lot of the attention!! As my friend Chrystal says, no girl ever has to buy a drink while carrying a whip.

It was an remarkable experience and I suggest everyone try this. You can even do a photo shot while doing pole dancing in my beautiful Sunnyvale studio! Contact me today to set up a photo shoot! Mistress J of Mistress J Studios specializes in all kinds of sexy shoots.

A recent session

Mistress had a call from a man who wanted nude photographs of himself. We arranged a date and time and he showed up promptly, which Mistress likes.

I take the sessions very seriously and care for the satisfaction of my clients. I could tell he male nude by Mistress Jwas a little nervous, despite a few email and phone conversations. I think many people, male or female might experience a little shame or embarrassment in wanting to have an erotic or nude photograph taken.

I think the reasons for this are many. The first being societal pressure. Then the other questions come up. Why would someone want to do this? Should I spend the money? Would my spouse disapprove? Am I too kinky? What is wrong with me?

Nothing is wrong. The human body is beautiful. We are sensual people, and we all deserve to feel beautiful and sexy, even just for a few minutes. Here at Mistress J Studios, that’s what I do. I photograph your sexiness. You can exhibit your kinks and fetishes (just no kids or animals), dress up or dress down and let your inner light shine.

Many people only show one face to the world, and keep the other one hidden. Show it to me. Share it, and in return you will have beautiful, tastefully done photographs to remember your experience in my studio.

Call for your session today. 408-239-6033. My website is always up and ready for visitors.
